The tragedy in sea depicted through paintings

Kottayam: One cannot pass through the railway overbridge in Kanhikkuzhi without noticing the shocking paintings of a giant fish with plastic bottles in its stomach or that of fish trapped in plastic waste on the wall. Artist Kajal Dutt has portrayed the dangers posed by plastic to our nature. She painted the two giant pictures on a 122-metre wall.
“Plastic wastes disturb the natural habitat of organisms living in the sea. Sea is the main theme of the painting to create awareness about the threats posed by inorganic wastes,” Kajal Dutt said.
A major part of this has been painted using enamel paint in black and white colours. They started painting on January 25 and it progressed without any breaks. Students and teachers from within the town and its surrounding areas took part in this. Kajal, who graduated from Thripunithura RLV, loves to stay in touch with nature. She also runs a kite maker studio in Mattanjerry, near the jew street.
The painting is done with the support of Railways, district authority, Haritha Kerala Mission, Baselios College National Service Scheme Unit and Southern Rottery club. Kajal hopes to finish the final works of the painting within two days.
