SC appointed committee finds govt, municipality officials accountable for Maradu illegal flats

New Delhi: A Supreme Court-appointed committee to probe into the illegal construction of flats in Maradu reported that the government officials and Maradu municipality authorities are responsible for building flats by breaching Coastal Regulation Zones rules. The panel has elucidated that the builders of the flat are not culpable for the violations. After analysing the report, the Supreme Court directed to identify the responsible officials.
Supreme Court has asked justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan to find whether the responsibility of the illegal constructions falls on government officials, local governing body officers, builders or any other parties. The committee directed the Supreme Court to take necessary actions against those who are accountable for the flat construction in Maradu.
The Supreme Court has informed the Amicus Curiae Gaurav Agarwal to forward the copies of the report to all parties in the case. Court has also observed to inform the opinions of the parties regarding the report within September 6.
Though the compensations for the flat owners were dispensed by the government, the amount was later collected from the builders.
