Sabarimala photo controversy: 23 police officers to face intensive training in Kannur

Pathanamthitta: In response to a controversial photo taken by 23 policemen from the SAP camp, authorities have decided to send the officers for intense training for good conduct. The photo, taken from the Pathinettampadi (holy steps) at the Sannidhanam, sparked criticism for violating temple traditions. The officers will be moved to Kannur for the training, though the exact duration of the course is unclear.
The policemen, who had been on duty at Sabarimala, will undergo rigorous training, during which they will not be allowed to go home. Authorities are also considering additional measures in response to the incident.
Viral photo and public backlash
The trouble began when the policemen, while stationed at the Sannidhanam for the ongoing pilgrimage duty, took a photo of themselves standing at the Pathinettampadi. The image quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation. While the officers claimed they were unaware of the breach in tradition, their explanation was rejected by high-ranking officials, who stated that such explanations were unacceptable for those working at the temple.
The issue escalated to the High Court, which intervened and sought an explanation from the ADGP in charge of coordination. The ADGP has requested an explanation from K E Baiju, the officer responsible for security at the Sannidhanam. A detailed report on the matter is expected to be submitted to the High Court on Thursday.
