RMS offices at Kozhikode and Vadakara move out of railway stations

Kozhikode: The Kozhikode RMS office, which had been operating from the Kozhikode railway station compound for over 50 years, stopped functioning on Monday. Its operations have been relocated to the Postal Recreation Club building in the Kozhikode Head Post Office compound, Mananchira.
This new facility will now accommodate services from the Vadakara RMS office and parts of the Shoranur RMS office. The move was necessitated to allow for the reconstruction of the building at the first platform of the Kozhikode railway station.
Additionally, the Vadakara Railway Mail Service (RMS) office too has ceased operations after 42 years as part of its merger with the Kozhikode RMS office. Services from the Vadakara office were discontinued on Monday morning, with the sorting of postal articles ending the previous day.
Regular employees have been transferred to Kozhikode, while several temporary workers have lost their jobs due to this reorganisation. The speed post service, which operate from evening to morning, has been shifted to the Vadakara main post office.
With these changes, the practice of sending postal items by train from Vadakara to Kozhikode has ended. Postal items will now be transported by road to the Kozhikode RMS office through the Motor Mail Service (MMS). Three MMS routes have been initiated to cover Vadakara, Kuttiadi, and Perambra.
Future plans
The Postal Department has announced plans to construct a multi-storied RMS office in Chalappuram.
Change in timings
With the RMS office shifted to the new building at Mananchira Head Post Office, the schedule for accepting and distributing postal articles has been adjusted. Postal items will now arrive at the post office around 9 a.m.
Postal Director's visit
NR Giri, Director of Postal Services, North Zone, visited the new RMS office to assess the changes. He also inspected the RMS office in Tirur.
