Reckless driving claims another life: Kannur man's world shrouded in darkness after wife’s loss

Pazhayangadi: The death of his wife, V.V. Bhanumathi, in a tragic accident on Friday, has cast a shadow over the life of P.K. Vishwanathan, whose vision had already been limited due to a lifelong condition. For over four decades, Bhanumathi was his constant companion, sharing in the joys and struggles of life.
Vishwanathan, born with a visual impairment, was familiar with hardship from a young age. Initially, he used to engage in work with his friends, but as he grew older, his vision deteriorated further. Understanding the challenges the family faced, the Federation of the Blind provided them with a cow, which became their primary source of livelihood. They lived modestly with two cows and three calves, making do with what they had.
Every morning, the couple would collect milk from their cows and deliver it to the local milk society on the road near the old AEO office. On Friday, as usual, Bhanumathi milked the cows and handed the milk over to her husband, who placed it safely by the roadside. She then walked to a nearby hotel to bring back rice gruel for the cow. Tragically, while walking back, she was struck by a speeding car, causing her to fall to the ground. The accident occurred just moments after Vishwanathan had positioned himself nearby.
The news of her death spread quickly, and many gathered at their home to offer condolences. Later in the evening, Bhanumathi was laid to rest at the Madayi Panchayat public cemetery at 6 p.m.
Her untimely passing has left a void in the lives of her loved ones, and the community mourns the loss of a woman who had been a steadfast partner for over forty years.
