Red alert issued across Kerala, holiday for schools in 12 districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared red alert in twelve districts on Tuesday due to the possibility of heavy rainfall in the state for the next 48 hours. 

Red alert has been announced in districts including Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kannur, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and Wayanad.

Orange Alert:

In the wake of continuous heavy rains,  a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges of  Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Idukki, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts on Wednesday (31.07.24). The holiday also applies to professional colleges and tuition centres.

For the next three hours (2:00 pm onwards), heavy rainfall and gusty surface winds reaching up to 50 km/h are expected at isolated locations in the districts of Thrissur, Malappuram & Kozhikode districts of Kerala.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds were expected in various locations of the districts Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur earlier today. Moderate rainfall with surface winds of up to 40 km/h in gusts is anticipated at isolated places across all other districts in Kerala.

People in the state have been advised to stay alert, and those living in hilly areas have been warned to stay vigilant in case the situation turns adverse.

Yellow Alert: Heavy rainfall: 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours
