Kavalappara landslide: Rahul Gandhi to hand over house to Kavya and Karthika today

Malappuram: Rahul Gandhi will hand over the newly constructed house to the two sisters in Kavalappara who were orphaned in the landslide tragedy last year. Rahul Gandhi had instructed for a house to be constructed after getting to know of the plight of Kavya and Karthika. The Wayanad MP will hand over the key and the documents of the house to the sisters on Monday in a function organized at Malappuram collectorate.

The sisters lost their mother, grandfather and three sisters in the Kavalappara landslide tragedy. Kavya and Karthika escaped only because they were staying in their college hostel.

Rahul Gandhi came to know about them when he visited Kavalappara after the tragedy. He then met them personally and consoled them. Before leaving, he instructed the district Congress leadership to construct a house for the two sisters.

The house was constructed after buying a plot of land next to the road. The house was constructed for Rs 7 lakh. Theland was bought and handed over by Ernad Service Corporation Bank.
