R Sreelekha alleges 'love jihad' in Kerala, criticises state government

Thiruvananthapuram: R Sreelekha, NDA candidate from Vattiyoorkkavu and a former police officer, sparked controversy with a speech alleging the presence of “love jihad” in Kerala. She claimed that the current government is turning a blind eye to the issue and failing to act even in the face of serious crimes.
Sreelekha made the remarks while responding to a question on women’s safety during a closed-door event at Sasthamangalam attended by invited guests.
She said that even she, despite being a police officer, did not receive any help when she faced a distressing experience. She also alleged that no action was taken even when a minister’s wife faced a similar situation. According to her, this reflects the lack of safety for women in the state.
Criticising the government, she said that those in power do not value faith and therefore do not give importance to crimes against women. She further alleged that political interference in the police force is a major reason for the lack of safety for women.
Sreelekha added that for the upliftment and safety of women in Kerala, there needs to be a change in government. She claimed that only an NDA government can ensure women’s safety, asserting that laws and policing would be reformed accordingly to deliver justice in society.
