Kottiyoor rape case: HC reduces sentence awarded to Robin Vadakkumcherry

Kochi: The Kerala high court has reduced the sentence awarded to Robin Vadakkumcherry in connection with the Kottiyoor case, according to which he raped and impregnated a minor girl. The court reduced the previous 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10 lakh. With this, the former priest will get only 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 1 lakh.
Robin Vadakkumcherry had filed an appeal in the high court against the previous judgement. A bench consisting of Justice Narayana Pisharadi held a detailed hearing in the case and decided to reduce the sentence.
Robin Vadakkumcherry was charged with various sections in connection with the case. The trial court concurred the POCSO case against him. Robin had appealed against this.
The court, which upheld the POCSO case and the rape, removed the charges booked for misusing the powers as the head of an institution. Following this, the sentence was reduced.
