Protest against CM: EKM police station witnesses wee-hour drama, Youth Congress workers get bail

Ernakulam: Palarivattom police station here in the wee hours of Tuesday witnessed high drama as senior Congress leaders staged a sit-in, demanding the release of Youth Congress (YC) workers, who were arrested over a black flag protest against Kerala Chief Minister and other ministers.
The sit-in which started on Monday evening lingered over around seven hours. Prominent leaders like MP Hibi Eden, MLAs TG Vinod, Uma Thomas, Anwar Sadath, and DCC president Mohammed Shiyas led the sit-in. Many Congress activists headed to the station. There was a scuffle before the police station as they tried to get inside. The activists also burnt CM’s effigy before the station. As the scene escalated, police produced the arrested YC workers before Ernakulam District Magistrate court after a health checkup.
The court issued bail for the six YC workers and Congress concluded sit-in by 2 am. The YC activists who were released on bail were given sweets. Meanwhile, the booked YC works need to appear before the court today.
YC workers had black flag protests when the Chief Minister and other ministers in the Nava Kerala Sadas bus were passing via Palarivattom junction. It may be noted that the Nava Kerala Sadas in the Ernakulam district was postponed due to the passing of CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran. It was scheduled to take place on January 1, 2 (Monday, Tuesday). The development comes at this juncture.
