Renowned Malayalam writer and scholar MK Sanoo passes away

Kochi: Renowned writer, thinker, literary critic, and teacher Prof M K Sanoo passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ernakulam. He was 98 years old.
Born on October 27, 1928, in Thumpoly, Alappuzha, Prof Sanoo earned his M.A. in Malayalam from University College, Thiruvananthapuram, graduating with first rank. He went on to serve as a teacher at Sree Narayana College, Kollam, and later at Maharaja's College, Ernakulam.
His literary journey began with the publication of his first book, Anchu Shastra Nayakanmar, in 1958. Two years later, in 1960, he released Kattum Velichavum, a work of critical analysis. He retired from teaching in 1983, and in 1986, was elected president of the Purogamana Sahitya Sangham. The following year, in 1987, he entered politics and won the Ernakulam legislative assembly seat as a Left-independent candidate, defeating Congress leader A L Jacob.
Prof Sanoo was an intellectual and a literary critic who championed eternal human values, promoted humanist ideals, and advocated liberal thought. His critical writings were known for their poetic depth and stylistic elegance.
Over his career, he authored around 40 books across various genres, including literary criticism, interpretation, children’s literature, and biography. His biographical works include notable figures such as Sree Narayana Guru, Sahodaran Ayyappan, and P. K. Balakrishnan. One of his acclaimed works, Changampuzha Krishnapilla: Nakshathrangalude Snehabhajanam, offers a profound analysis of the personal and poetic life of the iconic poet Changampuzha Krishnapilla. His autobiography, Karmagathi, reflects on his life, values, and literary journey.
