Kochi: The tragic death of 15-year-old Mihir, who allegedly took his own life due to relentless bullying at his school, has sent shockwaves through Kerala. The student, a ninth grader at Global Public School in Thrippunithura, jumped from the 26th floor of his residential flat, reportedly as a result of the harassment he endured at school.

His mother, Rajna, has filed a formal complaint with the Chief Minister and the state police chief, accusing the school of turning a blind eye to bullying that led to her son's suicide.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for justice. Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi expressed her deep sorrow and anger over the case, voicing strong support for Mihir's family in their fight for justice.

"Reading the letter written by Mihir’s mother is heartbreaking. As mothers, all we wish for is the safety and happiness of our children. I cannot even imagine the pain and anger she must feel to know that her child was tortured and hounded in the way she has described," she wrote in X.

Gandhi also called the school's failure to address the issue a grave injustice. "The school authorities should have the courage to acknowledge the reality of this crime, accept responsibility and not attempt to cover it up. It is their duty, and the duty of the state government to do all they can to provide justice for Mihir," she added. Gandhi emphasized the need for stricter laws to prevent ragging and ensure the safety of young students.

According to Rajna, her son had been subjected to severe ragging and physical assaults by his peers. Information from Mihir’s friends and social media messages further corroborates the allegations of harassment. His mother claims that the school's negligence in addressing the issue pushed her son to take such an extreme step.

The incident has sparked outrage across social media, with users expressing solidarity with Mihir's family and calling for immediate action against the school authorities. As the investigation continues, there are growing demands for stronger regulations to prevent bullying and protect students from such traumatic experiences.

Mihir’s mother, who has been vocal about the pain and loss she feels, has vowed to continue her fight for justice. "How can we allow children to be subjected to this kind of cruelty and criminality and do nothing?" she said in her petition. "My heart goes out to you, Rajna, and I stand with you in your fight for justice," Gandhi added.

Bullying isn't harmless; it destroys lives: Rahul Gandhi

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said the tragic loss of a student to suicide due to bullying in a Kerala school is heartbreaking and said those responsible -- both bullies and those who failed to act -- must be held accountable.

"The tragic loss of Mihir Ahammed to suicide due to bullying in a Kerala school is heartbreaking. My deepest condolences to his family," Gandhi said in a post on X.

"No child should endure what Mihir faced. Schools must be safe havens for children yet he suffered relentless torment. Those responsible -- both bullies and those who failed to act -- must be held accountable," the former Congress chief said.

"Bullying isn't harmless; it destroys lives. Parents must teach kindness, love, empathy, and the courage to speak up. Believe your child if they say they're being bullied, and intervene if they are the bully," Gandhi said.
