POCSO case: Complainant reveals Roy J Vayalat's lawyer offered Rs 50 lakh to give false statement

Kozhikode: In a startling revelation, the complainant in the No 18 hotel POCSO case told Mathrubhumi.con that a lawyer offered money to her for giving a false statement before the court. A lawyer who pretended as Roy J Vayalat's representative offered Rs 50 lakh when she returned to Kozhikode after lodging the complainant.
"The lawyer came to my office when I reached there after filing a complaint with the police. The lawyer visited me along with my friend. My colleagues were asked to leave the office space while we discussed the details of the case. I was asked to keep my phone away. Back then, I haven't given my confidential statement, and the case was in its early stage. No statement was recorded in the case at that time. So the case was not so strong. Later, the case became strong as other girls came forward and gave their statement," she said.
She added that the lawyer introduced himself as a representative of Roy J Vayalat and tried to contact his lawyer. However, he didn't pick up. Later, he started to speak about money.
"Anjali has borrowed some money from me. They offered Rs 50 lakhs to me as thinking that Anjali borrowed such a huge amount. He told me that he will settle Anjali's debts," she said. She added that the lawyer assured more money in due course.
The complainant also revealed that the lawyer had said that Anjali could be trapped in the case if she wanted. He told her that seizing Anjali's phone and questioning her will reveal all the truth.
The complainant also pointed out that the lawyer is aware of some drug dealers who approached Anjali and some other incidents.
"At the time of the incident, Anjali was accompanied by another woman. They forced us to go back to the pub in the hotel," she said.
The complainant also alleged that people in the No 18 hotel including the accused were intoxicated with drugs.
