Thiruvananthapuram: In a scathing attack on the Congress party, Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan termed it "shameful" that a Congress Chief Minister is openly idolising Adolf Hitler. The controversy erupted after Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy proudly declared that his state's anti-encroachment task force, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), was inspired by the notorious dictator.

Taking to Facebook, the veteran Left leader questioned the democratic credentials of the Congress government, accusing it of running an administration inspired by Hitler's killer squads.

"This statement is deeply shocking and an absolute mockery of a democratic society," Vijayan said.

'Bulldozer raj' and fascist undertones

In his detailed social media post, Pinarayi Vijayan targeted Revanth Reddy’s pride in using the name 'HYDRAA', linking it directly to the brutal legacy of the world's most infamous dictator.

"The Telangana Chief Minister has publicly and proudly proclaimed on stage that 'Hydra' was Hitler's favourite word, and that a system capable of mass slaughter like theirs is his inspiration," Vijayan wrote.

"It is deeply shameful for the Congress party to house a Chief Minister who openly worships the biggest fascist history has ever seen."

Vijayan further argued that this cannot be dismissed as a mere slip of the tongue. He drew parallels to historical events, asserting that Reddy’s remarks expose the true political character of the Congress party, which previously "slaughtered democratic rights in India during the Emergency".

Shifting ideologies and Left's warning

The Left leader also attributed Revanth Reddy's mindset to his political roots, pointing out his past association with the Sangh Parivar. Vijayan alleged that Reddy is comfortably advancing a fascist agenda from within the Congress structure, proving that the grand old party accommodates such dangerous ideologies.

"This reinforces what the Left has repeatedly said: the Congress can never truly oppose the fascist policies of the BJP and the RSS," Vijayan added, urging democratic believers to recognise the inherent danger in these developments.
