'She was hit on the head’: Victims seek justice after CCTV footage of Kerala cop's assault emerges
Pathanamthitta: A sub-inspector accused of assaulting a wedding party in Pathanamthitta was transferred to the district police headquarters on Wednesday.
The action was first taken against Sub-Inspector (SI) Jinu following a preliminary investigation into the incident that happened on Tuesday night. SI Jinu, Civil Police Officers (CPO) Jibin Joseph and Ashaq Rasheed were suspended following the orders of Pathanamthitta Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajeetha Begum.
However, the victims criticised the action, stating that it was inadequate and unacceptable. The police explained that the transfer was only an initial step and assured that stricter measures would follow. The district police chief confirmed that further action would be taken soon.
Sreejith, one of the victims said, "The police did something that should never be done to any human being. It was a group that included women. They beat us for no reason. They got out of the jeep and attacked us, saying, 'run.' When I asked why, there was no response. My wife and I fell to the ground while running. Even then, the beating did not stop. The thigh of one person in our group was broken. My wife has injuries on her shoulder and hand".
He further added, "They hit her on the head. A head injury is an attempt to murder. A case of that nature should be filed against the SI. We belong to the Dalit community. He might feel he can beat us wherever he sees us. That is unacceptable. We will fight for justice. The officer who attacked us should lose his job".
