Kozhikode’s Paragon secures fifth spot on global list of iconic restaurants

Kozhikode: Paragon Restaurant has secured the fifth position in the prestigious list of the 100 most legendary restaurants in the world for 2024-25, as compiled by the Croatia-based online food guide, Taste Atlas. The restaurant, known for its exceptional Malabar cuisine, notably its signature Malabar Chicken Biriyani, has risen from 11th place in early 2023 to claim its spot among the world’s finest dining establishments by the end of the year.

The list, which celebrates traditional eateries renowned for their longevity, history, and iconic dishes, ranks Vienna’s Figlmüller in the top spot. Founded in 1905, Figlmüller has become a symbol of traditional Austrian cuisine. 

Taste Atlas has also ranked Paragon among the best Indian restaurants in the global culinary scene. Two other Indian restaurants have also made their mark in the top 15. Kolkata's Peter Cat secured 7th place, with its renowned Chelo Kebabs, while Amrik Sukhdev in Murthal ranked 13th. 

Paragon, an 85-year-old restaurant located in the heart of Kozhikode city, is now recognized as one of the top five restaurants globally, a remarkable achievement for this beloved Indian eatery. The restaurant has long been famous for its rich Malabar cuisine, particularly its biryanis and seafood dishes, drawing food enthusiasts from all over the world. 

Taste Atlas’ rankings are based on public ratings, historical significance, and the iconic dishes that make these restaurants legendary. It tracks 23,952 traditional eateries worldwide.
