Palarivattom flyover demolition: Concrete debris to be taken to DMRC's Muttom yard

Kochi: The demolition of Palarivattom flyover will begin on Monday after the Supreme Court ruled that load test of the flyover need not be conducted. The tarring will be removed from the road in the first stage. The debris will be moved to DMRC’s yard in Muttom.
Concrete cutting works will start soon after the tarring is removed. DMRC officials had talks with the representatives of Uralungal Service Society online ahead of the start of the demolition work.
Each bridge will be cut into seven pieces using concrete cutter. Each of these pieces will be moved to a lorry using a crane and will be taken to the yard in Muttom.
A decision is yet to be taken regarding how these concrete pieces should be used. There are suggestions that the concrete pieces can be used for constructing seawall in Chellanam.
DMRC has submitted the final plan regarding how the construction should be done. The pillars of the flyover will be strengthened by wrapping it with iron rods. ‘Carbon Fibre Wrapping’ technology will be used for this.
