Kerala moves SC seeking permission to reconstruct Palarivattom flyover

New Delhi: The state government approached the Supreme Court requesting to immediately lift the stay on demolishing Palarivattom flyover. The state filed a review petition in the apex court demanding to amend the previous order issued by the bench headed by Justice Rohinton Nariman directing to maintain the flyover in its current state.

Palarivattom flyover has been closed for a year after finding out that it was constructed without meeting the standards. It has been pointed out in the review petition filed by the state government that they decided to reconstruct the flyover considering the inconvenience faced by the public.

However, the reconstruction is delayed due to the court procedures. After Kundannur and Vyttila flyovers are commissioned this year, there will be huge traffic block in Palarivattom causing inconvenience to the public, the state government pointed out in the petition.

The petition filed by the state questioning the high court order to conduct load test before demolishing the flyover, has been included in the list of pleas likely to be considered on August 28. However, it is not finalized if the plea will be considered on the day.

The state government's standing counsel G Prakash submitted a letter to the registry of the supreme court requesting to consider the petition to review the stay on demolishing the flyover and the plea questioning the order to conduct load test on August 28.
