Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday vowed to ensure justice for the family of a Chhattisgarh man who died following a mob assault in Palakkad district.

Ram Narayan Bakel, a native of Chhattisgarh, was reportedly lynched by a group of people in Walayar on December 17. The incident has sparked outrage, prompting the state government to promise strict action against those involved.

“Justice will be ensured for the family of Ram Narayan Bakel,” CM Vijayan said in a social media statement. “A special investigation team led by the Palakkad District Police Chief (SP) is currently probing the case. Instructions have been issued to take necessary legal action based on the findings.”

The Chief Minister added that the state government would provide appropriate compensation to the victim's family after a thorough review of the incident.

Condemning the violence, Vijayan stated that such acts have no place in a progressive state. “These actions, which tarnish the reputation of a civilised society like Kerala, are unacceptable. Everyone must remain vigilant to ensure such incidents do not recur,” he said.
