Palakkad: A chilling crime shook Kerala’s Palakkad district after a man allegedly broke into the house of a 64-year-old woman and attempted to sexually molest her in the dead of night, police said on Sunday.
The survivor, who lives alone in a dilapidated house in Alathur, was targeted in the early hours of Friday when the accused trespassed into her residence. According to police, the man tried to sexually assault the elderly woman and turned violent when she resisted.
Showing remarkable courage, the woman fought back, pushed the attacker aside, and managed to flee to a neighbouring house to save herself.
The accused has been identified as Suresh, a native of Porulippadam, who is reportedly associated with a political party. Police said he has been traced and his formal arrest will be recorded shortly.
Based on the woman’s complaint, stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempt to molestation and attempt to murder, have been invoked against the accused.
Police officials said further investigation is underway, calling the incident “deeply disturbing” and stressing that strict action will be taken against the accused.
