Opening of PWD rest houses adds Rs 11.7 cr to Kerala govt’s kitty

Thrissur: PWD rest houses across Kerala fetched around Rs 11.7 crore in the last two years from public booking of rooms.
It may be noted that the Kerala government permitted the public to book rooms in rest houses in November 2021. The rest houses took the name of public rest houses and an online booking facility was introduced. According to data, the 157 PWD rest houses in the state witnessed a total of 1,97,540 bookings in the last two years. The revenue from the bookings stands at Rs 11.68 crore.
Data shows rest houses in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts witnessed more footfall. While the rest houses in the Kasargod district had the lowest number of takers.
The public can book AC, non AC suits at affordable rates. A total of 1,166 rooms are available for booking. The rooms are categorised as Class I and Class II. The rates are as follows:
Class I
- Double Room AC: Rs 1000
- Suite Room AC: Rs 2000
- Double Room Non AC: Rs 600
- Suite Room Non AC: Rs 1500
- Scorpion Hall Room Non AC: Rs 600
Class II
- Double Room AC: Rs 750
- Suite Room AC: Rs 2000
- Dormitory - Bunk Bed-A(Lower) AC: Rs 400
- Dormitory - Bunk Bed-A(Upper) AC: Rs 400
- Dormitory - Bunk Bed-B(Lower) AC: Rs 400
- Dormitory - Bunk Bed-B(Upper) AC: Rs 400
- Dormitory - Bunk Bed-C(Upper) AC: Rs 400
- Dormitory - Bunk Bed-C(Lower) AC: Rs 400
- Double Room Non AC: Rs 400
- Suite Room Non AC: Rs 1000
