Lorry carrying 25 tonnes of onion goes missing enroute Kerala

Kochi: A lorry that set out from Maharashtra carrying onion worth Rs 22 lakh 6 days ago has gone missing. The lorry went missing mysteriously when the onion price is at Rs 65 per kilogram. Kakkanad native Siyad who ordered the onion is worried as he paid the price in advance.

Siyad has been running grocery business in Ernakulam market for the last 10 years. The lorry carrying 25 tonnes of onion set out from Ahmednagar in Maharashtra on October 25 at 2.30 pm. As soon as the lorry left, Siyad received the receipt.

According to this, the lorry was supposed to reach the destination on Wednesday. As it did not arrive till Thursday, Siyad grew suspicious and contacted Ahmednagar. They said that the lorry should have reached by this time. Though he tried to call the lorry driver, his calls were not answered.

Siyad has not been informed if the lorry met with a mishap or if it reached Ernakulam. His friend, a vehicle inspector, also tried to inquire about the missing lorry. They received CCTV visuals of the lorry starting from Ahmednagar.

The address in the RC book of the lorry is of a person named Jaleel from Kalamassery. When Siyad contacted him, Jaleel said that his lorry had not left the state border. He also said that the lorry number might have been faked. A complaint in this regard was filed in the Central Station.
