Migrant worker dies, 2 others injured as makeshift construction scaffold collapses in Kochi

Kochi: A tragic accident claimed the life of a migrant worker who suffered fatal injuries in a construction site mishap in Kochi Smart City. The accident happened due to a makeshift construction scaffold collapsing. Two other migrant workers also sustained injuries.

Reports indicate that eight workers were on the scaffold at the time of the collapse. The three injured were rushed to a private hospital in Kakkanad for medical treatment. One of them, who sustained fatal injuries, passed away, said fire force officials. The identity of the deceased worker is yet to be ascertained.

The accident happened around 10 AM on Monday. The workers were painting the building standing on the scaffold. Fire force and Infopark police reached the spot and carried out rescue activities. It was difficult to pull out the workers from under the collapsed scaffold, reports said. 

A scaffold is a temporary structure used to support a work crew and materials to aid in the construction.
