Onam special: Southern Railway rolls out additional trains to Kerala, check details here

Southern Railway has announced a series of special trains to accommodate the increased passenger traffic during the Onam festival. The new services include one-way specials, tri-weekly trains, and additional routes to manage the festive rush effectively.

Among the special services are:

Chennai Egmore - Kochuveli Special Train (Train No. 06160) will operate as a one-way service departing Chennai Egmore at 15:15 hrs on 13th September 2024 (Friday) and arriving in Kochuveli at 08:30 hrs the next day. Advance reservations for this service are now open.

For those traveling between Dr MGR Chennai Central and Kannur, two special trains have been announced. 

Train No. 06163 will run from Dr MGR Chennai Central to Kannur, departing at 23:50 hrs on Saturday and reaching Kannur at 13:30 hrs the following day. Contrarily, Train No. 06164 will travel from Kannur to Dr MGR Chennai Central, departing at 15:45 hrs on Monday and arriving in Chennai at 07:55 hrs the next morning. Reservations for these trains will be available soon.

In addition, tri-weekly specials between Tambaram and Ramanathapuram have been scheduled to further ease the passenger rush. 

Train No. 06103 will operate from Tambaram to Ramanathapuram on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays, departing at 17:00 hrs and arriving at 05:55 hrs the next day. 
Train No. 06104 will run from Ramanathapuram to Tambaram on Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays, leaving at 10:55 hrs and reaching Tambaram at 23:10 hrs. Reservations for these services are currently open.

Additionally, a special train between Dr MGR Chennai Central and Mangaluru Jn has also been announced. 

Train No. 06161 will leave Dr MGR Chennai Central at 15:10 hrs on Friday, arriving in Mangaluru at 08:30 hrs the next day. 
Train No. 06162 will run from Mangaluru to Dr MGR Chennai Central, departing at 18:45 hrs on Sunday and arriving in Chennai at 11:40 hrs on Monday. Advance bookings for these trains will also be available shortly.

In total, Southern Railways will operate 16 special trains with 78 services, including 10 Southern Railway trains and 46 services from other zones, to manage the festive rush. Passengers are encouraged to book tickets in advance to ensure their travel during this busy season.
