Kasaragod: A group of monkeys at Edayilekkadu sacred groove here had a ‘15-dish’ Onam special fruit-vegetable feast. The monkeys enjoyed the feast organised by Navodaya Library at the grove.

Jackfruit, mango, watermelon, sugar-apple, pomegranate, papaya, pineapple, banana, tomato, carrot, beetroot, cucumber and pumpkin were served to these animals as part of the feast.

The fruit-vegetable feast was served in plantain leaves laid over desks on the roadside near the groove. Chairs were also placed adjacent to it.

The monkeys favoured jackfruit and beetroot more than any other fruit and vegetable. Some monkeys dashed off the little ones to have more fruits.

The locals have been organizing this feast which is similar to the Monkey buffest festival in Thailand for 15 years. Even during the pandemic break, the feast was arranged by adhering to the COVID protocols.

Interestingly, this year, the feast had public participation and it regained the good old fervour.
