Kozhikode: A nine-year-old girl from Oman underwent a successful but complicated kidney transplant surgery at the Baby Memorial Hospital. A kidney was donated to Shrok Adil Mohammad Al Amri by her mother Alkhayar Suhail Al Amri. The entire medical procedure lasted for an entire month. The whole kidney transplant surgery had become complicated after a swelling was detected in  the girl’s mother’s renal artery.

Before undergoing the surgery, the girl’s health was maintained by undergoing three dialysis per week. Once Shrok approached the age for undergoing surgery, the doctors in Oman advised her parents to immediately take up the transplant procedure. 41-year-old Alkhayar was willing to donate the kidney to her daughter. Years ago, the girl's father Adil Mohammad Al Amri had donated his kidney to her elder sister Fathima who suffered from similar kidney related issues. Fathima’s kidney transplantation surgery had taken place in Delhi.

In the medical check up prior to Shrok’s kidney transplantation procedure, a swelling was detected in the Al Khayar’s renal artery. The family reached  Baby Memorial Hospital seeking treatment for this. Senior nephrologist at the hospital, Dr Sunil George, advised the family to take up the kidney transplantation procedure only after curing Al Khayar’s renal condition.

A team led by Dr Sunil George, Dr Poulose Chally, Dr Harilal V Nambiar, and Dr E K Ramdas performed the kidney transplantation procedure.

Shrok and her mother left the Kozhikode hospital in full health on Wednesday evening. Their flight to Oman is scheduled on Friday.
