Thiruvananthapuram: Transport Minister Antony Raju has defended the government's decision to spend Rs 1.05 crores to purchase a 'luxurious' bus as a mode of transport for Kerala Chief Minister and cabinet ministers attending the state-wide 'Nava Kerala Sadas' events.

Raju stated that there is nothing luxurious about the bus procured by the government. "The 25-seater bus, manufactured by Benz, is procured for the travel of chief minister and cabinet ministers. The only luxury in the bus is a washroom facility," he said.

The minister pointed out that by using the bus, the government might save a significant amount of money that would otherwise be spent on ministers' cars, pilots, and escort vehicles.

"KSRTC is already using more expensive buses. It is operating eight Volvo buses worth Rs 1.38 crores each and earning profit. KSRTC already has Benz buses in its inventory. After its primary purpose, the new bus could be used for tourism needs," he said.  He also dismissed reports that the bus will be brought from Bengaluru.
