Pathanamthitta: MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, arrested in connection with a third sexual assault case against him, has been remanded to judicial custody after completing three days of police custody.

He was produced before the Pathanamthitta Judicial First Class Magistrate at the judge’s residence once the police custody period ended on Thursday. As probe team did not seek an extension of custody, the court ordered his remand. Mamkootathil will be transferred to the Mavelikkara Special Sub Jail.

Before the transfer, he was taken to the Pathanamthitta General Hospital for a mandatory medical examination.

Bail plea hearing on Friday

Detailed arguments on Mamkootathil’s bail application will be heard on Friday at the Thiruvalla Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. Advocate Sasthamangalam Ajith will appear for the defence.

The defence has disputed the allegations, maintaining that the case is fabricated and that the charge of rape does not stand. It has also argued that proper procedures and established legal norms were not followed during the arrest and subsequent police actions.
