Nithin Raj case: Dr MK Ram re-arrested after Thalassery court finds lapses in probe

Thalassery: Professor M.K. Ram was re-arrested on Thursday in connection with the death of Nithin Raj, following a directive from the Thalassery Principal Sessions Court.

The court ordered the re-arrest after observing serious lapses in the initial stages of the investigation. In an unusual move, the Sessions Court also summoned senior Crime Branch officials to explain the shortcomings in the probe before directing the police to arrest the accused again.

Following the court's order, Dr. Ram was asked to appear at the police station and was taken into custody shortly after the verdict was delivered at around 4.30 pm.

After completing the arrest formalities, he was taken to Kannur District Hospital for a medical examination. Since court hours had ended by then, police decided to produce him before the magistrate subsequently.

The investigation team is now working to complete the probe comprehensively, as the case has triggered widespread protests and public debate across Kerala. Nithin Raj's family had earlier alleged serious irregularities in the police investigation and repeatedly demanded a fair and impartial probe.
