Kerala to receive Rs 2,560 cr for NH renovation

Thiruvananthapuram: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will sanction Rs 2,560 crore for renovation works of NHs in Kerala for multiple projects.

Eight accident prone black spots have been identified on the Edappally-Mannuthy, Walayar-Vadakkenchery stretches of NH and all eight points will have underpass constructed. According to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, road accident black spots on NHs is a stretch of about 500m in length where either 5 road accidents (involving fatalities/grievous injuries) or 10 fatalities took place during last 3 calendar years. 

The renovation works has been sanctioned for four development projects on the highway stretch linking Talapady in Kasaragod district to Karode in Thiruvananthapuram. Projects like the Enchakkal flyover, service bridge in Thiruvallam, Anayara underpassage and Poovar underpassage are also sanctioned.

Rs 560 crore has been allocated for all these projects.

Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam bypasses have also been approved and the estimated cost is around Rs 2,000 crore.
