Neyyattinkara: In connection with the death of a couple during suicide bid amid eviction procedures here, their children have demanded action against the neighbour who filed a case against them.

“Grade SI Anilkumar shoved the lighter from my father’s hand as asked by neighbour Vasantha. Then the fire spread all over their body. So, murder charge should be booked against her,” Rahul and Ranjith, sons of the deceased Rajan and Ambili, asked the police.

The boys demanded this during the statement recording. DYSP S Anilkumar recorded the statement of Rahul at their house and of Ranjith at the General Hospital.

“My father was having lunch at home. SI Anilkumar, who came to evict the family, dragged him outside. Then my father went inside and came out with mother and they doused themselves in petrol. When he turned on the lighter, fire spread on his arm and he put it out. But the SI came and suddenly shoved the lighter from his hand and the fire spread. SI tried to murder him by lighting the fire,” Rahul and Ranjith said in the statement given to the DYSP.

Neighbour Vasantha made a fake title deed and tried to seize ownership of the land where the family was living. She managed to make the fake documents using financial and political influence. Vasantha’s son and brother had threatened the family before, the boys stated.
