Health Minister Veena George donates blood on voluntary blood donation day

Health Minister Veena George donated blood at the Women and Children hospital at Thycaud in connection with the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on Friday.
The Health Department aims to increase blood donors and meet the 100 percent need through voluntary donation. On average, Kerala needs 4 lakh units of blood per year and 80 percent can be acquired through voluntary donations. The National Voluntary Blood Donation Day is being commemorated on October 1 to encourage voluntary blood donation in the country.
Minister Veena George will inaugurate the National Voluntary Blood Donation campaign at Gorky Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. The Health Department, Kerala State Aids Control Society, blood banks and blood donation groups are together organising another campaign in view of the blood donation day. Along with this, awards for recognising the organisations which excelled in the field of blood donation will be proclaimed. Panel discussions of experts, webinar series, blood donation camps and several other activities have also been organised.
