Thiruvananthapuram: A huge tamarind tree fell on top of a house in Kattakada. A lady who was sleeping inside the house at the time of the incident had a narrow escape. The lady was identified as Ramani (56), who lives in her house beside the Kattakada market road. She was staying alone in the house - a structure made of roofing sheets.

The tamarind tree was uprooted owing to the torrential rains the previous night. The tree had fallen onto the side of the roof under which Ramani was asleep. She panicked hearing the noise, and had no clue whatsoever, regarding what was happening. The showers continued without a stop. Ultimately, she managed to come out of her house braving the odds, by making a way for herself, out of the jammed roof sheets.

Several trees in the surroundings also came down under the giant tamarind tree and are hanging dangerously. The officials of the panchayat, taluk and KSEB have been informed about the incident. It will be a daunting task for the lone woman, who earns a living by selling tobacco products, to reconstruct her house all over again.
