‘My son was scared...’: Heartbreaking words from Deepak’s mother as accused goes into hiding

Kozhikode, Kerala: Shimjitha Mustafa, accused in the case where a man died by suicide following the circulation of a video alleging sexual harassment on a bus, has gone into hiding.
The case, related to the death of U. Deepak (41) from Govindapuram, Kozhikode. Following his death, the police registered a case under charges of abetment to suicide against the Vadakara resident, Shimjitha. Meanwhile, there are reports that Shimjitha may have left the country.
Police are currently focusing their investigation on Shimjitha’s phone. CCTV footage from the bus has also been collected as part of the probe.

Meanwhile, Deepak’s family has demanded strict action against the accused.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday in an emotional statement, Deepak’s mother Kanyaka said, “No mother should ever face such a situation. No mother can endure this. No mother or father should have to go through this. It is unbearable. My son became helpless. That is why all this happened. No one in the world should ever experience this. No one should face such a fate.

He didn’t even tell me a single word. He was scared. Until now, he never scolded or insulted any girl or anyone. Everyone said he was a good person. Everyone who knew my son only had good things to say.”
Deepak’s father added that the woman who recorded the video had destroyed his son’s life.
