'Vahan' portal enables vehicle owners check details, documents via online

Thiruvananthapuram: As the details of about 1.40 crore vehicles in the state have been switched to the national register e-service portal 'Vahan', the vehicle owners will get an opportunity to cross check their details. If there are any mistakes, they can inform the authorities and correct it. Mobile phone number can be corrected and new number can be added also.
Mobile number registration is very important in 'Vahan' service. The One-Time Password (OTP) for each service will be sent to the mobile number of the owner. The details of fine for traffic rule violation and other matters also will be sent as SMS to the number.
Mobile number registration is useful to find the owner when the vehicle meets with accident or is abandoned. The owner can know the progress of online applications through this. When registration certificate is sent via post, an SMS will be sent to the owner's number including the speed post number. This will help avoid return of the post.
Even after all the services of Motor Vehicle Department are made online, some people still depend on middlemen. These mediators give their number in the 'Vahan' website in order to avoid the owner from knowing the details of fee and other transactions. So, the vehicle owners should enter their own numbers in the documents and website, the Motor Vehicle Department informed.
