More power to women: Kudumbashree network now has more than 16.55 lakh leaders

Alappuzha: Elections to offices of various levels of the Kudumbashree Mission have been completed in the state except in Idukki’s Edamalakkudy. More than 16.55 lakh women have come to leadership roles.

Across the state there are 16,55,263 women leaders. The breakup is as follows:

  • Neighbourhood group level: 14,16,675
  • Area development society (ADS) level: 21,14,005
  • Community development societies (CDS) level: 1,0648 (chairperson); 19,455 (vice-chairperson)
  • Representatives from Attappadi neighbourhood groups: 5,128

Notably, the representatives from Attappadi were imbibed as a part of the Attappady Adivasi Comprehensive Development Scheme. In this regard, 733 neighbourhood groups, 133 settlement committees and four panchayats were included.

Out of 1070 CDS, only the Edamalakkudy has not gone through the election. This is because of the Covid-19 surge in the tribal locality. In Palakkad’s Puthunagaram, the elected members have not been sworn in due to differences in opinion.
