Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to campaign in Kerala on Sunday, March 29, with back-to-back events in Palakkad and Thrissur as part of the NDA’s first phase of assembly election outreach. The visit combines a large public meeting and a tightly planned roadshow, with security and traffic measures in place.

Palakkad rally marks campaign start

Modi will begin his campaign in Palakkad, where a public meeting is scheduled at Fort Maidan. He is expected to arrive at Coimbatore airport in the afternoon and travel by helicopter to Palakkad, landing at Mercy College ground before heading to the venue by road.

The public meeting is set to begin earlier in the day, with Modi reaching the stage later in the afternoon. A short stretch along English Church Road has been arranged for him to greet the public en route. The event will be chaired by BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, with NDA candidates from 12 Assembly constituencies in the district present on stage.

Authorities have put in place tight security arrangements across the city due to the high-profile visit.

Thrissur roadshow with traffic curbs

After the Palakkad event, Modi will travel to Thrissur for a roadshow scheduled around 4pm. He will land at the helipad of C. Achutha Menon Government College in Kuttanellur, where he will be received by Union minister Suresh Gopi and other BJP leaders.

From there, he will proceed to the city centre to lead a 900-metre roadshow along Swaraj Round, starting near the District Hospital and ending at Bini Heritage Home. The stretch has been fully closed to traffic, and no public meeting is planned in Thrissur, with the focus entirely on the roadshow.

Large crowds are expected, with traditional art forms arranged along the route. All NDA candidates from the district are also expected to meet Modi during the visit.

Traffic restrictions will be in force from Saturday morning until Sunday evening, including parking bans and controlled vehicle movement. Authorities have advised the public to avoid non-essential travel during this period.

More leaders to join campaign

A second phase of Modi’s campaign is likely on April 4, with planned programmes in Pala in Kottayam district and in Thiruvananthapuram. Election rallies for constituencies including Pala, Poonjar, Kanjirappally and Vaikom are expected to be held in Pala, alongside a roadshow in Thiruvananthapuram city.

Senior BJP leaders, including Union ministers Amit Shah, J P Nadda, Rajnath Singh and party president Nitin Nabin, are also expected to campaign in Kerala in the coming days to strengthen the NDA’s outreach.
