Mobile veterinary clinics to run services in Kerala from September

Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant move to benefit livestock farmers in Kerala, mobile veterinary vehicles will begin operation in the state from September onwards to bring veterinary services to people's doorsteps. As many as 139 small vehicles have been bought for the purpose.
At present, there are 29 mobile veterinary units functioning in the state. Initially, the decision was to set up surgery units on large vehicles at a cost of Rs 12.98 crore. However, as the vehicles could not be taken to rural villages, the plan was changed.
Further, as the animal welfare department failed to inform the Rebuild Kerala initiative about the change in the project, there was a delay in granting approval for the new project.
Now, approval has been granted for a Rs 14.89 crore project comprising an expense of Rs 11.55 crore for 127 mobile veterinary units and Rs 3.29 crore for 12 mobile surgery units.
An annual profit of Rs 19.45 crore is expected through the veterinary clinics in the state.
