Migrant worker lynched to death in Muvattupuzha was a YouTuber, cops continue probe

Muvattupuzha: The death of Arunachal Pradesh native Ashok Das (24) at Valakom is now confirmed to be a classic case of mob lynching. The youngster who worked at a hotel was a budding YouTuber as well. The police have stated that Ashok succumbed to injuries he sustained during the mob trial. The claims of the cops are backed by the postmortem report and the doctor’s statements. In addition to this, the statements of the girls in the rented house which was visited by Ashok moment before his death and the video evidence handed over by them also helped the police to come to a definite conclusion. The females are known to have issued secret statements to the magistrate as well. 10 people have been arrested in connection with the incident so far including three persons who belong to the same family. Murder charges have been pressed against all the accused.

The accused in the case are Bijeesh (44), Amal (39), Sanal (38), Elias K Paul (55), Aneesh (40), Sathyakumar (56), Keshav Sathyan (20), Sooraj Sathyan (26), Emil (27) and Athul Krishna (23).  All the above-mentioned people were arrested by a team of police led by Ernakulam rural district police chief Vaibhav Saxena. Post the arrest, they were all sent to remand by the court.

The tragic incident happened on Thursday night earlier this week. Ashok Das who visited the rented house of two females living near the Valakom junction started acting in a violent manner after reaching the place. He broke the glass of an almirah, injuring himself. He stepped out of the house with his bleeding hand. Seeing this, the locals questioned him. The youngster panicked and tried to flee the spot. However, he was tied to a pole on the road by the locals and was brutally beaten. After some time, the police arrived at the spot. Ashok was admitted to a hospital around 11 PM. However, he succumbed to injuries early morning the next day. Cops have revealed that one of the females was a good friend of the youngster. They were working in the same hotel.          

Ashok had a YouTube channel in the name of ‘MC MuNNu’. In total he had uploaded 13 videos on his channel. Post his death, several people have visited the youngsters YouTube channel and have offered their condolences. 

The postmortem report of the deceased suggest that he had sustained serious blows on his head and chest which are being said as the primary reason for his death.     

The cops conducted evidence collection pertaining to the case on Saturday. For this, the police had taken the accused to the locality where the gory incident had happened.
