Idukki: Former minister MM Mani has taken a stand against the Revenue Department's order to cancel illegal title deeds issued in Munnar by Devikulam Taluk additional tehsildar MA Raveendran in 1991.

He pointed out that if the order is followed as such, then the title deeds given to the party office in Idukki will also be affected along with other lands in the area. He slammed the order and claimed that the party office would remain there and no one would be allowed to touch it.  He asked the Revenue Minister and the department to explain why the land deed given to people through a fair conducted by the government should now be cancelled.

He pointed out that people will protest in the streets if the officials try to enforce the order. “The decision is to deal with the issue legally and politically. People bought land deeds paying money at a fair conducted by the officials,” he said. He also said that he did not agree with the decision to cancel the ‘Raveendran Pattayams’.

Mani said the order affects ordinary people rather than non-existent large landowners. So far, successive governments have not felt the need to repeal the land deeds, he said.

He added the party would stand with the people in this matter.

Meanwhile, CPI district leadership also came out in protest against the Revenue Department's order.
