Controversy erupts after MB Rajesh's wife appointed in Sanskrit University

Kochi: A controversy has erupted over the appointment of former MP and CPM leader MB Rajesh's wife as an assistant professor at Sanskrit University.

Rajesh's wife Ninitha Kanichery, a government school teacher, was appointed as an assistant professor in the Malayalam department of the Sanskrit University. It is alleged that the CPM leader's wife was placed in the first position ignoring many others who had higher qualifications.

Professor Umar Tharamel, who was a subject expert in the selection committee, pointed out in a Facebook post that the rank list was turned upside down and that he expressed his disagreements to the university authorities.

Ninitha obtained rank 212 in the PSC rank list which was published after written examination and interview to the post of assistant professor in government colleges. But Rajesh's wife was given first rank after the interview conducted by the Sanskrit University though there were other candidates who had secured better rank in the PSC list, it is pointed out.

The University Campaign Committee also alleged that the rank list was prepared by ignoring candidates who had higher academic qualifications, several recognised project reports and experience in teaching.

Ninitha Kanicheri, daughter of KSTATA leader Rasheed Kanicheri, was an SFI leader. Following the controversies, the appointment of MLA A N Shamseer's wife as an assistant professor in Calicut University also was stopped.
