Mathrubhumi Pre Poll Survey: UDF tipped to win tight Thrissur contest; BJP second

Thiruvananthapuram: Mathrubhumi pre-poll survey has predicted a close triangular contest in the Thrissur Assembly constituency, with the United Democratic Front (UDF) holding a slight edge ahead of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the BJP.
According to the survey, the UDF’s Rajan Pallan is projected to secure 36.03 per cent of the vote share, followed by the BJP’s Padmaja Venugopal at 33.3 per cent and the LDF’s Alankode Leelakrishnan at 30.67 per cent. The projected lead stands at 2.73 per cent in favour of the UDF, indicating a tightly contested race.

Thrissur is set to witness a high-stakes battle with CPI’s Alankode Leelakrishnan contesting for the LDF, Rajan Pallan representing the Congress-led UDF, and Padmaja Venugopal in the fray for the BJP.
The constituency has emerged as one of the most closely watched seats in the state, especially after the BJP’s breakthrough in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the region, riding on growing support.

Traditionally a bipolar contest between the LDF and UDF, Thrissur has in recent years evolved into a competitive three-cornered fight, with the BJP steadily increasing its vote share.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, CPI candidate P. Balachandran won the seat by a narrow margin of just 946 votes, underlining the constituency’s volatile electoral nature. With all three fronts in strong contention this time, the latest survey points to another nail-biting finish in Thrissur.
