Malappuram professor’s online math exams is a hit worldwide

Malappuram: According to Dr P Vinodkumar, Maths is everything that is in the universe. His training programme reflects this thought. A free online training class that was started amid Covid pandemic and lockdown, now has students not only from Indian states but even abroad.

Parappanangadi native Dr P Vinodkumar is an assistant professor in Maths department at the Thunchan Memorial Government College in Tirur. He had started two WhastApp groups for his students. The group discussed maths problems for various entrance exams, methodologies in solving problems etc. He also issued maths model exam for the students.

During the lockdown, the exam was made online. On all Saturdays he would release a test paper containing 25 questions. Students can attempt from 8 pm to 9.15 pm. Soon, marks will be published via Google Docs.

Detailed answers and required links will also be provided. Those scoring above 90 percent would be informed via e-mail.

“The WhatsApp group and online math test series are very helpful for students aspiring to appear in competitive exams like IIT-JAM CSIR JRF, UGC NET etc. We are very grateful to Vinod sir for this initiative. He has helped students who are unable to afford coaching classes. The best thing about it that the results will be out on the same day and with detailed explanations of each questions,” said Himanshi Chanana, a PhD student in Mathematics at IIT Kanpur who attends the test series.

“The WhatsApp group administered by Vinodkumar is one of the best platform mathematics aspirants can get. The online exam series was really helpful for me and I believe is the same for everyone preparing for competitive exams,” opined Anmary Tonny, first rank holder in M.Sc. from Cochin University of Science and Technology who attends the online tests.

A Vijayakumar, Emeritus Professor, Department of Mathematics in CUSAT told Mathrubhumi that the training is of international standard and would help students immensely.

A webinar on ‘Role of Mathematics in Cyber Security’ is organized by the WhatsApp group administered by Vinodkumar in association with state-run Career Development Centre in Perambra, on August 15 from 11.15 am to 1.15 pm. Dr. Avishek Adhikari, Professor of Department of Mathematics at Presidency University in Kolkata will be the key speaker of the webinar.
