SC defers hearing of Maradu flat cases to 3rd week of January

New Delhi: The Supreme Court postponed hearing of the Maradu flat cases to the third week of January. The bench headed by Justice Rohington Nariman made it clear that the case requires a detailed hearing.

As the cases that requires short hearing are considered on Monday, the petitions regarding the compensation will be heard in the third week of January when detailed hearings are scheduled, the court stated.

The petition filed by the Maradu flat builders seeking permission to sell properties for distributing compensation of the demolished flats, was listed in the supreme court on Monday.

Justice Balakrishnan Nair committee submitted a report in the top court stating that only less than Rs 5 crore out of the total Rs 61.5 crore was handed over as compensation in the first phase.

The committee informed the apex court that the request of the flat builders for permission to sell the properties was rejected. The court also considered the plea of the government requesting 8 more months to submit a detailed report regarding violation of Coastal Regulations Zone act in the state.
