Man’s suicide attempt with 4-year-old thwarted by bus driver’s quick action in Kerala

Adoor (Pathanamthitta): A 45-year-old man attempted to end his life along with his four-year-old son by jumping in front of a private bus in Adoor on Monday morning.
Thanks to the driver’s timely intervention, both escaped unharmed. The incident happened around 9.30 am near the Indraprastha Hotel, and CCTV footage of the dramatic moment has since emerged.
According to eyewitnesses, the man, walking along the roadside with his son, suddenly stepped into the middle of the road and leapt in front of a bus named Ashwin, operating on the Adoor–Chavara route. The bus driver, B. Unnikrishnan, reacted immediately and slammed the brakes, narrowly avoiding a major tragedy. The locals rushed to the spot as the man tried to flee with his child, but they stopped him and informed the police.
“I saw him walking with the boy. As the bus got closer, he suddenly jumped in front of it. I hit the brakes instantly; it was pure luck that they survived,” said Unnikrishnan.
Police identified the man as a resident of Athikattukulangara. He reportedly came to the Adoor General Hospital earlier that morning with his wife and son. However, when his wife went missing from the hospital, the man, distraught and disoriented, allegedly attempted to end his life with his child. Based on his statement, police have launched an investigation into the incident.
