Thiruvananthapuram: Two youths were seriously injured in an accident involving a car allegedly linked to actor Maniyanpilla Raju near the Trivandrum Club at Vazhuthacaud on Thursday night, police said. The incident occurred around 9.30 pm on February 5, when a car allegedly rammed into a Royal Enfield motorcycle carrying two young men.

The injured have been identified as Sooraj (20) and Nivedith Krishna (20), both residents of Thiruvananthapuram. Sooraj reportedly sustained fractures to his left leg and shoulder, while Nivedith suffered injuries to his head and legs. Both were rushed to a private hospital in the city and are currently undergoing treatment.

It was initially believed that the car had been driven rashly and negligently after exiting the Trivandrum Club, with the driver allegedly fleeing the scene without offering assistance or informing the authorities. However, CCTV footage that later emerged suggested the contrary, indicating that the motorcycle had rammed into the car.

Police traced the vehicle to registration number KL 01 CJ 0004 through a dislodged number plate recovered from the accident site. The car is registered in the name of actor Maniyanpilla Raju, whose official name is Sudheer Kumar Raju.

A case has been registered under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving on a public way endangering human life) and 125(a) (endangering the life or personal safety of others, with potential imprisonment for hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 134(A) and 134(B) of the Motor Vehicles Act based on the initial report. He was arrested in connection with the incident and later released on bail.
