From chat to cheat: Woman flees with man’s new scooter after first date in Kochi

Kochi: A 24-year-old man from Kaipattoor has lodged a complaint after a woman he met through WhatsApp allegedly stole his brand-new scooter during their first meeting at a mall in Kalamassery.

The two had developed a friendship over chat, but had never exchanged photos. After a month of regular conversations, they decided to meet in person.

The young man arrived at the mall on his new scooter and parked it in the area indicated by the woman. She had insisted that he leave the scooter at a specific spot in front of a shop she mentioned.

After meeting, they spent some time together and had a meal, which included chicken biryani and ice cream, paid for by the young man. Moments later, when he went to the washroom and returned, the woman had disappeared.

He tried to reach her on the phone, but her number was unreachable. It was then that he realised the keys to his scooter were also missing. When he rushed back to the parking area, the scooter was also gone.

The victim soon approached the Kalamassery police and filed a complaint. Based on CCTV footage, the police said they have received a tip-off regarding the woman’s identity and are investigating the matter.
