Man and infant among group of honey hunters die at Wayanad- Nilambur border forest

Vaduvanchal: A man and an infant among a group of persons went to collect honey in the forest of Wayanad- Nilambur border died on Sunday morning. 

The deceased were identified as Rajan (47), who resided at Cholanaikkan sanctuary in Muppainad grama panchayat and four-month-old boy child of Sunil and Kaada from Kumbalappara colony in Nilambur. 

It has been reported that Rajan fell from the tree when the ladder slipped while he was mounting to extract honey. When the hive disturbed, a swarm of bees started to pour out and the group ran in fear of the bee attack. While running, the child slid from mother’s hand and died by falling into the nearby river. 

The group entered the forest to collect honey on Saturday night. There was heavy rain in this region near Kalakka Puzha at night. The group included a family from Kumbalappara colony, located on the other side of the river and a few tribals from Parappanpara. 

The mortal remains were recovered by a team of police officers led by Kalpetta Fire and Safety Assistant Station Officer PO Varghese, forest department, Pulse Emergency team and natives.
