Malappuram: A pregnant woman was allegedly given the wrong blood type during a transfusion at Government Women and Children Hospital, Ponnani Road, on Thursday. The 26-year-old woman, who is eight months pregnant, was given B positive blood instead of O negative blood.

The incident took place around 5 pm. According to hospital authorities, about 15 millilitre of blood was transfused before the mistake was discovered. The woman was immediately shifted to Thrissur Medical College for further treatment.

The woman's health condition is reportedly stable, but she is being monitored closely by doctors. The District Medical Officer has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
