M Mukundan takes a jab at modern writers for choosing Instagram over society

Kozhikode: Renowned author M Mukundan expressed concern that while society still needs writers, many contemporary writers no longer rely on society, instead are opting for platforms like Instagram. He made these remarks while receiving the Ashita Memorial Award from the Ashita Memorial Committee.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Mukundan highlighted how Ashita’s writing could serve as a guiding light for writers who have lost their way. He stressed that Ashita’s work, despite being seen as subjective, remained deeply attuned to the struggles of society. He also noted that there was a profound sense of community in Ashita’s writings, an aspect that resonated deeply with readers.
The award was presented by Kozhikode Mayor Dr Beena Philip, with several other awards handed out by Mukundan to recipients including Akbar Alikkara, K.R. Ajayan, Abhishek Pallatheri, Pradish, Reji Malayalapuzha, Dr. Anandan Raghavan, Reetha Raji, and Suja Parukannil.
The ceremony was presided over by Unni Ammayambalam, while Shihabuddin Poythumkadavu delivered the Ashita Memorial Speech. Benna Chendamangalur provided the keynote address, with speeches from P.K. Rani, Sheela V.K. Kulakad, Palakkad Radhakrishnan, M. Kunjappa, and Rajalakshmi Mathathil.
